So last week it seemed like spring was seriously holding out on us. Yet, here we are, less than a full week later, the temperature is 10 degrees warmer, the sun’s shining and I’ve got my legs out. Not that I’m complaining, on the contrary, this is my favourite time of the year. When it’s warm enough to forgo the jacket yet not quite so hot that you’re melting.
I love a good button down a-line skirt for it’s versatility and this is one I wear year round. The length is somewhere in between mini and knee length so it transitions well from day to night, as well as season to season. It looks good with bare legs and white tops in the summer, as well as cozy knits and tights in the winter.
As much as I know that seasonal items are a necessity in most of our wardrobes, I try my best to look for pieces that will work most of the year, if not all. I’d much rather switch out a few key pieces every season, as opposed to replacing my entire wardrobe every 3-4 months. This way, you’re getting the most wear out of your clothes and I find it also makes dressing for the transitional period slightly easier. I especially keep this in mind when shopping for bottoms such as skirts and trousers as these are the items most likely to work all year round. This is also my reasoning for spending a bit more on bottoms over tops. In my experience, it’s well worth paying a little more for high quality, well tailored garments that will stand the test of time.
Coming back to this outfit, you can see how the skirt anchors the rest of the outfit. I can easily replace any of the other items to make this outfit work for all four seasons, which you’ll definitely be seeing in the future. Today I finished the look with a monochrome blouse, black lace up flats and my trusty trench which is absolutely an indispensable piece in my wardrobe.
