I don’t know what it is about spring and summer but I always find myself drawn to more feminine, girly pieces when the weather warms up. Whether it’s floral prints, ruffles and frills or floaty dresses, I want to wear them all during this time more than any other time in the year. So naturally it should come as no surprise that one of my favourite pieces to wear in the summer is a midi skirt.
I’ve always loved an a-line skirt for it’s universally flattering shape, and I’d hazard a guess that many of you feel the same way. After all, what’s not to love about a nipped in waist and a floaty skirt that hides all manner of sins. But I’m especially partial to an a line skirt in a midi length as I find them to be even more comfortable and carefree, particularly on gusty days, if you catch my drift (no pun intended). Plus at the right length, they can visually elongate your legs too! Just below the knee works best on my short frame but if you’re taller, you could easily wear a longer length.
I’d had my eye on this zara skirt for months before I snapped it up when it went in the sale a couple of weeks ago. We’ve already established that I love this cut and the paperbag waist (read more here) so the beautiful print just sealed the deal. I’m loving reds and yellows at the moment (see more here, here and here) so this colorway works perfectly with my existing wardrobe. Today I’m wearing the skirt quite causally with a yellow linen tee and some white keds but I know I’ll be able to wear this skirt numerous other ways and also dress it up or down depending on the occasion. I’m particular looking forward to wearing it with my some of my favourite summer accessories like these yellow ball drop earrings that are everywhere at the moment and some red shoes that I’m loving right now.
If you follow me on instagram, you’re sure to see more ways I’ll be styling this skirt and no doubt it will make a reappearance on the blog soon enough. Until then, I’ll leave you with these pictures that I hope encourage you to try out a midi skirt this summer if you haven’t already.
