This is the final post in the three ways to style a lace blouse series. In case you haven’t seen the previous two, you can see part one (work look) here, and part two (evening look) here. For this last look, I’m dressing down the lace blouse for a casual and comfortable weekend look.
As I mentioned in the last two posts, I do think of lace as an inherently dressy fabric. So for this weekend look, I decided to play down the formality of a high neck lace top by juxtaposing it against very casual items that don’t compete for attention with the top in any way. The light wash denim, white sneakers and utility jacket all add a casual element to the outfit so that the lace top that looked formal and sophisticated in the previous two outfits, immediately looks weekend-ready here.
I specifically chose these jeans not just because they’re in my favourite cut of the moment—the straight leg crop—but also for their colour. I think light wash denim not only pairs well with white, but also looks more causal than dark or black jeans. Moreover, the ankle grazing length of this style works well to show off fun summer shoes.
If it were warm enough, I would’ve opted for flat sandals in either white or a pop of colour. But since we’re not quite there yet with the weather in Toronto, I chose to go with sneakers instead. I think the choice of footwear speaks for itself—you’d be hard pressed to find a more casual shoe than a sneaker, right? The ones I’m wearing are leather top keds, which are a recent but welcome addition to my spring/summer wardrobe. I really like keds for their sleek look and slightly higher vamp which means they look good with midi skirts, a line skirts and jeans alike. And the best part? They’re probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. So really, a no brainer for a weekend look when comfort is of top priority!
Last but not least, I topped off the outfit with my go-to casual outerwear—a utility jacket. Mine is a couple of years old from Gap, but Gap brings back the same jacket every spring with a few small tweaks here and there. Actually, most retailers offer some variation of a utility jacket every spring so you’re bound to find a version you like. I’ve linked the current gap version at the bottom of the post incase you want to check it out. The reason I love this garment so much is because it’s just so easy to wear and goes with practically any kind of outfit. Plus I love it’s ability to transform any outfit to immediately make it appear more causal and effortless—which is exactly the vibe I like to go for when it comes to weekend dressing.
So that concludes this ‘lace top, three ways’ mini series. I hope I’ve convinced you of the many merits of a white lace blouse and the amazing value it can add to your wardrobe. It’s honestly a workhorse of a garment that can take pretty much anything you throw at it in terms of styling possibilities. If you don’t already own one, I’d urge you to add it to your shopping list pronto! I’ve linked my top as well as other lace tops I’m loving right now, below. Regardless of what style of top you choose, I can guarantee, in addition to the ones I showed here, you’ll discover countless other ways to wear it. Just remember to have fun with it and happy shopping!
