If you’ve seen my post from a couple of weeks ago, you’ll know of my newly discovered love for gingham. After staying far away from the print all my life to now owning multiple gingham pieces, I’ve come a long way. Not sure what took me so long, but I’m well and truly sold on the checks now! So tomorrow being Canada day, it only seemed fitting to take my new found appreciation for gingham and combine it with my love for Canada in a red and white themed outfit post.
I love smock dresses for summer anyway, but this Zara number stood out to me for it’s frilly shape and ruffled sleeves. It’s definitely one of the more girly pieces in my wardrobe but I think the gingham pattern stops it from being too cutesy and makes it a little more playful instead. As you might expect, it’s incredibly comfortable to wear too. The airy, floaty shape is just what the doctor ordered for those hot summer days when you want to be outdoors and soak up as much sunshine as possible without overheating. And the ability to overindulge in delicious food with people being none the wiser is really just the cherry on top (no pun intended!).
To play up the red and white, I wore the dress with some of my favourite red accessories but I think it would look absolutely darling with some espadrilles and a straw bag too. If you’re looking for a print to wear this summer, look no further than the humble gingham. It’s a classic that’ll add some colour and cheer to all your sunny weather ensembles, whether they’re meant to be worn in the city or on holiday.
Thanks so much for reading and happy Canada Day to you! I’m off to have that gelato that’s calling my name!
